Marilyn A Sutherland

- - December 13, 2021

MARILYN SUTHERLAND was born December 9, 1954, to Josephine Hampton in Greenwood MS.  She relocated to Cleveland Oh at the age of 2.  At that time, she was lovingly adopted by Clarence Hampton.  She was the oldest daughter of 8 children.
In 1966, Marilyn was baptized at Bethany Christian Church.  She joined under the leadership of the late Rev. R.W. Dickerson and then under the leadership of Dr. Robin E. Hedgeman.  She was a member of the junior ushers, children’s choir and the youth choir.
Marilyn was educated in the Cleveland OH school system.  She was a proud John Adams Rebel where she was a very popular and outstanding student. After being in Cleveland for many years, she relocated to Patterson New Jersey where she was employed as a home healthcare aide.  While in Patterson, she met the love of her life, Kyle Thompson.  In 1993, the two relocated to Cleveland to make this their home.
Marilyn loved to cook especially around the holidays.  Her favorite pastime was watching television, including soap operas and action-packed movies.  She loved spending time with her daughter, grandchildren and her great grandchildren.  Marilyn lived her life to the fullest extent through the ups and the downs.  She had a quiet soul and spirit.  She loved listening to gospel music while she was home and unable to attend church service.  Whenever you entered her home, you were sure to hear gospel music.  During her temporary stay at a nursing home, she insisted gospel music be played in her room.
She loved her family with whom she had a special bond.  She loved and adored her granddaughter, Treasure, who she spoiled rotten and encouraged to be the best person she could be. During her final days on earth, Marilyn was loved and cared for by her special caregivers, her “big” sister Gwen, her life partner, Kyle, and her daughter Antoinette.
Marilyn departed this earthly life to join the Lord on December 13, 2021.  Her mother Josephine Hampton and her father Clarence Hampton preceded her in death.  She leaves her memory to be cherished by her only daughter Antoinette Sutherland of Euclid, OH and her lifelong love of over 30 years, Kyle Thompson Euclid, OH.  She also leaves 7 siblings, Dwight Sutherland of Garfield Hts., OH Gwen Hampton of Garfield Hts., OH, Clarence Hampton of Toledo OH, Minister Anthony Hampton (Kimberly) of Maple Hts., OH, Jacqueline Hampton of Cleveland, OH, Linda Hampton of Garfield Hts., OH and Ken Hampton (Swanzetta) of Powder Springs GA.  Grandchildren Michael Sutherland, Cleveland, OH and Treasure Humphrey, of Cleveland OH.  She also leaves 6 great-grandsons and a special uncle who she loved dearly, George Sutherland of Kansas City, MO.   She had a love for a host of nieces and nephews and other family members.  She will be missed by all that knew her and came across her path in life.

ETERNAL LIFE: Jesus said: “I am the resurrection and the life.  He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.”    John 11:24-26
