D S My condolences to Steven’s family and friends. I did not know Steven long but I knew he had a kind and loving heart. Steven and I had learned of our family connection a couple years ago and only spoke a few times. I had moved and lost contact information then January this year I found his number and had tried to reach him. Peace be with you. We will meet someday. De’Ana Stanley (cousin)

Victoria LaVinger One of Steven's friends sent these words in memoriam: March 1, 2022 "I live in Japan now, but I spent my entire twenties in The San Fransisco Bay Area, and that was in the 90's. Steve was one of my best friends and continued to be so even after I moved back to Japan in 1999. When I met Steve, I was about twenty-one and was suffering from severe chronic depression at that time. While most of my friends had given up on me and started distancing themselves from me, Steve did not. He treated me as if he didn't know what depression was. He always came to see me, took me out of my dark apartment room, just to enjoy life. We did so many things together. We went to so many places together. Steve was everything I was not. He was the kind of person who could decide things, plan things, lead things, fix things. He was the kind of person who stood up for his friends. He showed me how to be strong and survive in the sometimes mean American society. I always looked up to him like a big brother, and I knew Steve would help me if something happened to me. Now it's been over twenty years since I moved back to Japan and I am leading a happy life. I must say that I was able to survive my depression without a single set of counseling or a single dose of medication because I had a friend, Steve, and for this, I am forever indebted. I will be thinking about him." - Kenji Sakazume
