David V Sciabaras, 85, passed peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones after an exciting day, which included a flight around the area he lived, on 9/4/22.
Dave was born in Chicago, Illinois, to David and Mary. He resided most of his life in the Chicago suburbs, but spent his last years basking in the desert sunshine in Goodyear, AZ.
Dave had an entrepreneurial spirit. Among his many ventures were a nightclub during the height of disco’s popularity and a manufacturing company. He was perhaps best known as a Harley Davidson dealer, which he was for over twenty years. Many people started out as Dave‘s customer or employee but became life long friends.
Dave pursued many hobbies over the years. Motorcycling, including racing in enduros and hill climbs in his younger years. Flying. In his thirties he got his pilot license. Scuba diving. Skeet shooting. Boating.
Dave loved being on the water, in boats big and small, motor and sail. He made many, many trips north with his runabout boat for family fun on Lake Nokomis. He took a yacht, as first mate, from Chicago to Florida via the Mississippi. Another time, he made the trip from Chicago to Florida via the St. Lawrence Seaway and down the east coast. Switching motor for sail, he once sailed from Florida to the Bahamas.
Dave was an early adopter of technology and delighted in sharing the latest with those around him.
Dave could start a conversation with anyone and was a great listener. He was a father figure/mentor to many.
Dave loved to see people enjoying themselves, and often used his sense of humor to ensure they did.
At home Dave could be found watching The History Channel, flying airplanes on his computer, reading on a wide variety of subjects and assembling LEGO‘s.
Dave considered himself lucky to have shared his life with two amazing women. His wife of 40 years, Patsy Anne, with whom he shared the joys and tribulations of raising five children, as well as countless other adventures; and his partner for the past twenty two years, Sharon Swanson, with whom the adventures continued.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Mary, his brother Tony, and his beloved wife Patsy Anne.
Dave is survived by: His partner, Sharon Swanson. His children. David, MaryJo Stern (Steve), Kenny, Michael (Trisha Hendry) and Victoria Cassingham (Gene). Six grandchildren. Torie Lange, Dekota Sciabaras, Tyler Rowan, Michael D and RaeAnne Sciabaras and Eden Cassingham. One great grandson, Jason Joseph Lange.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Illinois at a later date.
