Robert Orta Gonzales

October 17, 1936 - April 29, 2023

Robert Orta Gonzales of Whitter, California passed away at Cedars Sinai Hospital on April 29, 2023.

Robert was born in Miami, Arizona on October 17, 1936 to Demetrio Gonzales and Ruth Fierro. He worked at Dennison and Eastman and then Vanier Graphics as a graphic artist/printer for 35 years.

Robert, known as Bob or Uncle Bobby to his family, was an avid sports fan. He loved his Rams and Lakers, but was a huge Dodgers fan. He loved sports so much, he coached his sons, Mike and Danny, when they played baseball. As a family, there were not many times we can remember that did not involve a baseball field, or at a game spending time together.

Family was very important to Robert, having always encouraged his children and grandchildren to stay in school, get good grades, and always do your best. He was the best listener, and gave advice with no judgement and left it up to us whether to follow it or not.  The best advice he gave to his family is that “You can do anything you set your mind to!”

Robert and his wife loved to travel which included many cruises, trips to Mexico, Mississippi, Arizona and the beach.

Robert is survived by his wife of 67 years, Inez, his children Mike (Yoli), and Vicky (Fred), four grandchildren Robert (Jessica), Amanda (Ernie), David (Mayra) and John (Cayse), six great-grandchildren Alice, Serena, Violet, Jeremiah, Marcus, Mariela and his brother Jess (Margie).

Robert was preceded in death by his son Danny, his parents, and in-laws.

Our family knows he is in a better place, and no longer suffering. He will be missed by many. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in memory of Robert to the American Cancer Society, St. Jude, or a charity of your choice.
