In Loving Memory of
Joseph Garnel Murdock
June 16,1944 – October 12, 2023
Joseph Garnel Murdock, a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, peacefully departed from his earthly life on October 12, 2023. He was surrounded by his loving family as he journeyed to be reunited with his beloved wife, Mary, on what would have been their 55th wedding anniversary.
Joseph was born on June 16, 1944, in Hanford, Washington to Harold Murdock and Cecile McBride. He grew up in Stockton, California with his sisters Zoe, Fay, and Kay and his brothers Hal and Dee. He spent much time in his childhood adventures visiting Idaho with his family. Joe began his journey at local Stockton schools, ultimately earning his diploma from Stagg High School. His patriotism led him to proudly serve in the United States Air Force for four years, where he was deployed to Germany, France, and England. After his honorable service, he found love in Mary, and they were married in 1968. Joe ventured into various local jobs before dedicating himself to a career with the California Youth Authority, as a Group Supervisor and retiring after 28 years. During this time, he was also a Chapter President for the California Correctional Peace Officers Association.
After retirement, Joe enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, traveling in his RV, spending time with friends, fishing, leather work and a little off roading on his ATV. Joe was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he spent much time volunteering to help others and in the bishop’s storehouse of his church. He loved spending time with the missionaries during their visits and offered any life lesson that could be shared.
Joe’s life was a testament to his commitment to family and country.
Joe leaves behind his son Mason (Amy); Grandchildren Austin (Mollie), Micah (Jaxon), Rebecca (Joshua), Brooke (Jeramy), Joseph, and Mason as well as four great grandchildren; Lillie, Bentley, William, and Elliot. He is survived by his sister Fay Murdock and brother Thomas Dee Murdock and many nieces and nephews, and brother in law Dennis Ellis.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife Mary and daughter Rhoda as well as his parents Harold and Cecile, sisters Kay and Zoe and brother Hal.
