It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Karen Lee Litrenta (née Jahnke), a cherished individual whose vibrant spirit and indomitable love for life left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Karen passed away peacefully on February 20, 2024, in California at the age of 89.

Born on July 5, 1934, Karen's journey through life was one of passion, humor, and an unwavering commitment to the things she loved. 

Her unique interests and passions shaped a life rich in experiences and relationships. Karen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Albert Litrenta, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion.

Karen's memory will be forever cherished by her children, Cheryl and Larry (Judy) Litrenta; her grandchildren, Lauren (Jeremy) Barnes, Albert (Angelika) Litrenta, Rhonda (Michael) Dicera, Spenser Litrenta, and Robert Broadbelt IV; and her great-grandchildren, Dustin, Blake, Anthony, Isabella, Liam, and Eli. Each one held a special place in her heart, and she imparted wisdom, love, and a bit of her spirited character to all.

A lover of the color red, the word 'Eureka', and reading the early morning newspaper, Karen also had an unparalleled love for animals, particularly cows. This affection began in her childhood, visiting the cow that lived on her street, and developing a rapport that would ignite a lifelong adoration for these gentle creatures.

Karen's dry wit, discriminating taste, and eye for beauty led her to a successful career in collecting and dealing antiques. Her passion for preserving history was matched only by her commitment to supporting Native American issues and the Alzheimer's Association, reflecting her compassionate and caring nature.

Her life was enriched by the companionship of two lifelong friends, Micki Fogarty and George Miceli. Micki, her partner in crime since the age of eight, shared countless adventures, from searching for antiques in the suburbs of Chicago to flying in a hot air balloon over farms in Illinois. They embodied a friendship built on laughter and love. George, a dear friend from high school, introduced her to the joys of Italian cuisine and became a mentor in her professional endeavors. Their friendships were pillars of strength and sources of countless cherished memories.

Karen's love for diverse cultures extended to her culinary tastes, enjoying Mexican, Indian, and Italian food with a gusto that was contagious. Her home was a welcoming space where stories were shared, and meals were savored, embodying her spirit of generosity and hospitality.

As we say goodbye to Karen, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a legacy of love, laughter, and the pursuit of passions. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her and were touched by her kindness, elegance, and indomitable spirit.

A memorial service to honor Karen's life will be held at a later date, where friends and family can come together to share stories and remember a life lived to the fullest.
