Mary LaVerne Daniels

September 03, 1958 - March 02, 2021

Mary Laverne Daniels was born on September 3, 1958 in Houston, Texas.  Her parents were Phoebe Ann McKinney and Joseph Brown.  In 1962 Mary and her sister, Fay and Mother, Phoebe moved to Los Angeles, California where Phoebe met and later married Clinton Nora.
Mary attended Virginia Road Elementary School, FoshayMiddle School and Dorsey High School. On August 5, she brought home a healthy baby boy whom she named James Lamar Brown (Daniels).  She then married Rene James Johnson.  March 5, 1978 she brought home a beautiful baby girl JaneaLashawn Johnson.
She later moved to Tacoma, Washington where she met and later married Gustine Kenneth Daniels. They relocated to Riverside, California to be closer to the rest of the family.  On October 22, 1981 they welcomed their third child, Kendra Latee Daniels(Dennie) Then on September 20, 1984 they welcomed their last and final child, Geoffrey Gustine Daniels.
Mary was always ambitious and outgoing.  She worked as a Claims Adjuster handling Workmen’s Compensation cases at a major Firm while working on her Bachelor of Science Degree at California Baptist University. In 2007 she joined her daughter, Kendra in Irving, Texas where they lived until 2014 when they decided to join the rest of the family in Phoenix, Arizona.  Mary was always self- sufficient, independent and loved learning and taught her children to do the same.
Mary loved her family and friends. She will be greatly missed. She leaves to cherish her memory, her four children:  James Daniels, Janea Johnson, Kendra Dennie, (JD) and Geoffrey Daniels Sr.(Tiffany).
Grandchildren:  Jamee Millis, Dion McFarland Jr, Tatyana McFarland, Julia Acosta, Kenyon Marbley, Khia Daniels, Janiyah Hartsfield, Naomi Daniels, Jahzara Graves-Dennie, Geoffrey Jr. and Omari Daniels.
Siblings:  Evelyn Fay Towns (Billy),  Carson, California, Alicia Brown, (Texas), Noella Thompson  (Ehren)  California, Rev. Clevis Edmonds (Sytrice) California, Shantea James, (Califoria), Ronald Gaines(California, God-sister Diannia Lindsey (California) and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother Phoebe Ann Nora, her father Joseph Brown and her step-father Clinton Nora.
We are comforted by the knowledge that our loved ones are no longer suffering or in pain. (Ecclesiastes 9:5,10)  They are in a sleep-like state awaiting the day when Jesus says to those in the memorial tombs to come out (Acts 5:28-29). Revelation 21:3-4 assures us that God will “wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning, or outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

Charles Phinizy am so sorry for your family's loss. Though I never met Mary in person, I have learned so much about her and her great character. I have the pleasure to have been dating her sister Alicia Brown whom lives in California for the last 3 years. The pleasure to have known her father Joseph Brown the last year of his life. Moreover, I had the distinct pleasure to have zoomed with both Mary daughters and an extensive conversation with Janea. I can tell Mary was greatly loved by her children and grands. Mary will never be forgotten and God has called her home. I know He has said in relation to Mary's life "well done."
