GUSTAVO SALVADOR OLIVAS

Born in San Diego California, attended Marion Catholic High School.  Proudly served his country as a US MARINE. He loved his job with the Bureau of Prisons and was an exceptional Correctional Officer.
Our beloved husband, father, and brother, Gustavo Olivas, passed peacefully in his home surrounded by his loved ones on July 31, 2024. He fought a courageous battle against cancer, and our hearts are heavy with grief. We will cherish his memory forever.

Those who had the pleasure of knowing him can attest to his joyful and infectious laughter. He was a prankster who loved to play jokes on his close family and friends. He brought joy and happiness to all who knew him. He was a great friend to all and wouldn't let you down when you needed him.  He loved his brothers and sister and loved reminiscing of the good old days and all their crazy shenanigans.
Such a kind and caring man that put up with all my crazy ideas and love for animals.  Always dreaming of the future and the travels we would embark on.
A loving Father who adored his children. He was so proud of all their milestones and achievements and would say, " Be the best at whatever you do and never take SH*T from anyone!" He adored his baby girl Chloe and was so proud of how bright and beautiful her mind worked and amazed by her ability to be so talented in everything she did. Loved Marco and was so proud of all his accomplishments and adored Julieta and Marco Abel. He loved all his pets dearly.
He was and will always be a PROUD MARINE!

I will never forget you for as long as I live!
You will be forever in our hearts and memories
We miss you, TAVITO
Rest in Peace until we meet again.

Ale Ramirez My last heart to heart conversation I had with Olivas was when I had finished a meeting and I was heading back to my office and on my way I noticed him through the window door and there he was working. Olivas never had a lazy bone in his body, although he was not feeling well he had to be productive. We saw each other and there he walked me through what he’s been doing to fight cancer. I appreciate that last memory of him because we smiled and laughed. My condolences to his wife, children, and grandchildren. He talked highly of you and the plans for the future. He’s plan now is to watch over you with his angel wings. And to protect his brother and sisters at FCC Victorville. We’ll miss you Olivas, and thank you for the advice and pan dulce.

Brandy Hahs Mr. Olivas was one of the best and most reliable officers at the BOP. His calm demeanor and pleasant personality were ideal for the harsh environment of a prison. I was fortunate to have gotten to know him when he was assigned to my courtyard. My condolences go out to the family. I have no doubt that his passing will leave many with an emptiness in their hearts for years to come. Rest in peace, brother in blue. 💙

Dios te bendiga a ti y a tu familia
