Carol Hedelund Wikle

December 26, 1950 - June 05, 2024

Carol Wikle (nee Hedelund) passed away on June 5, 2024, after a courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer. Carol was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She was a dedicated Registered Nurse, an avid runner, a passionate sports fan, a star gazer, a voracious reader, a devoted Catholic, an aspiring chef, an adventure seeker, and a world traveler.

Carol leaves behind her loving family:  her husband Richard Wikle, her cherished son Ian Wikle, her brother David Hedelund, niece Margaret McGaughy, nephew, Peter Hedelund, great niece, Ada and great newphew, Chapman. Carol was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret R. Hedelund (1975) and father, Andrew 'Rocky' Hedelund (1958).

Carol was born in Euclid, Ohio on December 26, 1950. She spent her early years on the east side of Cleveland with her mother, grandparents, and brother. Her love for Cleveland sports teams was kindled by her grandfather, with whom she spent countless hours listening to games on the radio. Carol attended Regina High School, a private, all-girls Catholic high school.

Following her passion for healthcare, Carol became a Registered Nurse, graduating from St. Vincent Charity School of Nursing in 1968. She dedicated her career to caring for others, working in St. Luke's SICU, Cleveland Clinic's cardiovascular ICU and dialysis unit, and with the Visiting Nurses in Cleveland. Even after moving to California, Carol remained committed to her field, working in home health care until her illness. She was known for freely sharing her knowledge and advocating for proper healthcare.

Carol was not only a devoted nurse but also a loving mother to her only child, Ian. Raising Ian was one of her greatest joys and proudest accomplishments. Carol, Richard, and Ian shared a love for travel, embarking on many adventures together.  One of her most memorable trips was to Machu Picchu, a testament to her adventurous spirit.

In addition to her nursing career, Carol led an active lifestyle. She began running in 1978 and participated in numerous 5k, 10k and half marathons. Her last race was the Bay to Breakers in San Francisco, which she tackled with her friend Pat. Even after she stopped running Carol continued to stay active by walking.

A celebration of Carol's life will be held on September 28, 2024 @ 2:00 at GQ Ranch in LaGrange, OH (for more information, please email tammyqshare@gmail.com). Her family and friends will gather to honor her memory and the remarkable life she lived. Carol's legacy of love, compassion, and adventure will continue to inspire all who knew her.
