Remembering our Mother
Trudy Jo Brooks passed away after a brief illness Friday, September 6th, 2024. She is
survived by her sons Chris Brooks (Robin), Ernest Brooks II (Doug) and Jeffery Brooks;
3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband
Ernest Brooks and her parents Paul and June Shepherd.
Trudy attended Skagit Valley college before marrying and settling down to raise a family.
She held many summertime jobs including working as a field boss in the berry fields of
Skagit county. Later years saw her working in retail clothing; eventually becoming a
clothing buyer for a local boutique.
Trudy enjoyed taking the kids camping at Deception Pass state park as well as seeing
that her kids learned how to swim. Many summer days were spent sunbathing at local
beaches with her kids.. A trip to Disneyland in the 70’s and a leisurely return home
through Oregon with stops to see family was a memorable time.
In her leisure time Trudy enjoyed a variety of arts and crafts. She loved macrame and
woodworking. One year she had a booth at the Anacortes Arts and Crafts festival selling
custom router work signs. In later years she enjoyed stamping, as well as creating
beautiful hand made greeting cards. Trudy’s holiday bazaars were a high point for many
years with many local artists and family filling her house with original holiday inspired
treasures.
From the mid 1970’s Trudy became a member of the Order of Eastern Star at the local
Masonic Temple in Anacortes, Wa. Together with Ernie they pursued greater levels of
achievement and fraternity within both the Order of Eastern Star and the Masonic Order
of which they both found much joy and lasting friendship.
Although we wished to keep her with us forever, we take great comfort knowing she is
with our lord, and is with her loved ones that preceded her in death. The family would
like to thank the Homeplace of Burlington, Wa. for their kindly care and also Hospice of
the Northwest for all their kindness and compassion as well as the doctors and nurses who
took care and comforted her during her final days on earth.
