Nancy Hovland Gage

January 07, 1948 - September 10, 2024

Nancy Lois Hovland Gage passed away unexpectedly at her home in Belmont, California Tuesday, September 10, 2024.  She is survived by her siblings Janet Jungden, Ken Hovland, jr., and spouse Carol, Keith Hovland and spouse Pamela, and many nieces, nephews and extended family members who all miss her dearly.

Nancy divided her time between CT and CA.  She was born in Manchester, CT.  The family lived in Rockville until they moved to Northridge, CA when she was 16.

Nancy was a journalism major and received her B.A. from Fullerton State College, CA, in 1970.  She worked at the LA Times, but then moved east to be involved in the family business, Reminder and Thrifty Publications.  She then moved back to California, working for Day-Glo paints selling printing ink, and had her own business importing items from Ecuador.  Once she had moved to senior housing, she became involved with the social life there.  She enjoyed calling bingo, fundraising, and was president of the resident’s association.

Nancy enjoyed travel.  In 1983, she spent 10 months traveling on her own in Europe, covering most of the continent in a Caravan camper.  She had some amazing adventures, and wrote an extensive and entertaining journal of her travels.  She also enjoyed visiting family in CT, Iowa, and the Florida Keys.  Nancy overcame her fear of flying by getting her pilot’s license and flying a small Cessna out of Ellington Airport.

Nancy loved animals, especially cats and is survived by her best friend, Sugar, a large white cat who gave her great comfort.  In her early years, she enjoyed riding our horse, Melody, and a friend’s horse, the Governor.

Services will be private.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a rescue for cats, www.catsnortheast.org.
